Adoption of Multicultural Approaches towards Resilience Enhancement in EU (AMARE-EU)

Area of activity/subject: multicultural approach, resilient communities, risk-informed cities

Summary of the project: Between 2010 and 2013, around 1.4 million non-EU nationals, excluding asylum seekers and refugees, immigrated into the EU each year using regular means. When speaking about natural and man-made disasters, rapid population growth and largely unplanned cities expansion can increase community exposure to hazards and creates new patterns of risk, making the management of disasters in urban areas particularly complex. In this context, AMARE-EU will contribute to raise awareness of citizens and to develop more risk-informed EU cities, with dedicated actions targeted to non-native citizens, which due to multidimensional factors are more exposed to marginalisation and social exclusion.
