Area-wide Assessment of Risk Evaluations 2 (BE-AWARE-2)

The project BE-AWARE-2 is the follow up of the 2012 BE-AWARE project which developed an area-wide marine pollution prevention policy quantifying resources available, current and future maritime activity levels and environmental sensitivity as well as produced a well understood and unanimously accepted Blue-print for disaster prevention at the regional level, tested and validated.

In the current BE-AWARE-2 project which will run for 2 years, most of the contracted parties are partners cooperating to identify alternative future 2020 scenarios for risk reduction measures and response capacities and producing an assessment of the vulnerability of the coastline and offshore areas to marine pollution for the whole Bonn Agreement area, an assessment of the impact of predicted spills for each scenario and Risk Management conclusions for each sub-region to reduce the impact of marine pollution and address development possibilities for response capacity.

The project aims to feed the results into the 2016-2019 Bonn Agreement Action Plan in line with the conclusions from each sub-region, possibly with political endorsement from a Ministerial Meeting in 2016. In addition, the project would also aim to feed the results into EMSA through both the Board and CTG meetings to allow the planning of EMSA response, capacities to benefit from the work, as well as DG ECHO for the inclusion of environmental and socioeconomic sensitivity maps in the CECIS database.
