EUROpean Wildlife pollution emergency Assistance-2 (EUROWA-2)

EUROWA-2 aims to strengthen Europe’s capability to deal with wildlife pollution emergencies via holistic/integrated pollution management, mutual assistance between coastal countries and the availability of a European network of internationally qualified EUROWA experts.

Existing European structures and mechanisms for mutual assistance between countries will be optimised so that qualified EUROWA experts can be internationally mobilised and assist with marine pollution incidents under the formal command of the leading national authorities. The project is a follow-up of a 2015-2016 EU project in which the EUROWA mutual assistance philosophy and training modules were developed.

The proposed project will engage responsible authorities from different European countries to help develop structural arrangements for proactive management of pollution incidents that allow the integration of a timely and effective wildlife response.

The project assists the EUROWA network members in developing relationships with these authorities and engaging them in response preparedness investments. The project also will aim to expand the EUROWA network to other countries, add new elements to the EUROWA expertise portfolio, and make courses and exercises available for Network members and their authorities
