Preparedness for oil-polluted shoreline area clean-up and oiled wildlife interventions (POSOW2)

The Project for Preparedness for Oil-polluted Shoreline clean-up and Oiled Wildlife interventions POSOW 1 (2012-13)* supported the enhancement of knowledge and capacities of professional and volunteer operators working in civil protection services, in municipalities and in NGOs, in the European Union coastal countries of the Mediterranean Sea (namely: Croatia, Cyprus, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, Slovenia and Spain) on 4 topics:

- Volunteers management,

- Oiled shoreline assessment,

- Shoreline cleanup and

- Oiled wildlife response.

The current project POSOW 2 concerns:

i) the dissemination of the POSOW1 benefits and results (training material packages, train the trainer courses, national pilot training courses, volunteers database) to Southern Mediterranean countries: Algeria, Egypt, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Tunisia and Turkey

ii) the extension of POSOW1 to another 2 new topics:

- Response with local fishermen assistance: using small vessels of opportunity and

- Oil spill waste management.
