Project

Relative impact of starvation and oil on digestive and kidney functions of sea birds

The General objectives of this project are:

  • to improve the criteria of triage of the oiled birds, mainly during oil spills with massive arrival of birds;

  • to improve the management of these birds notably at the level of protocol of re-feeding and re-hydration which are two key processes of the rehabilitation protocol.

The expected results are also to provide a table to help with the decision of triage and then the treatment, particularly in the case of accidental oil spill with a massive arrival of oiled birds. The pilot project will be implemented with two partners: CEDRE and the Utrecht University.
