The current situation in Venezuela has had a significant impact on migration flows in the region in Latin America, and continues to constitute one of the largest displacement and migration crises in the world.

To date, 7.1 million Venezuelans have left their country and 5.9 million have settled in 17 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, mainly Colombia, Peru, Chile, Ecuador and Brazil, of which the R4V Platform reports 8.4 million people with humanitarian needs including refugees, migrants, receiving communities, the population in movement, returnees and in transit.

To analyse these flows, their needs, and humanitarian responses, the international community needs to promote a comprehensive response, maintaining a close relationship with host and mobile populations.

The EU and the Government of Canada together with the Coalition of Civil Society Organizations for the Defense of the Human Rights of Refugees, Migrants and Displaced Persons in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC RMD) promote a high-level dialogue.

The event will take place in virtual format on 9 March within the framework of the International Conference in Solidarity with Venezuelan Refugees and Migrants and their Host Countries and Communities 2023.

The event aims to:

• amplify the voices, perspectives and needs of the most vulnerable groups, as well as refugees and migrants from Venezuela and other nationalities within the mixed flows
• highlight the relevant role played by civil society organisations to provide humanitarian aid within Venezuela, and in the countries of transit and reception of refugees and migrants from Venezuela
• highlight the specific challenges faced by diverse perspectives, including analysis on how to incorporate the Nexus approach, and the added value civil society organisations bring to the response to the Venezuelan humanitarian crisis, based on lessons learned and best practices identified
