Description
The Directorate-General for Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO) and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) will co-host a virtual launch of the 2022 Global Humanitarian Overview on Thursday, 2 December 2021.
The Global Humanitarian Overview is the world’s most comprehensive, authoritative and evidence-based overview of the current state and future trends in humanitarian action and is published by OCHA.
The virtual event will have multiple sequential launches in Berlin, Brussels, London, Stockholm and Washington, D.C. The launch events will take place as part of a global plan to engage decision-makers and humanitarian actors in highlighting the key themes and urgent priorities covered in the Global Humanitarian Overview 2022.
The events will serve to amplify the voices of affected people, raise awareness of the increasing global humanitarian needs and encourage partners to contribute generously to humanitarian operations.
Brussels’ launch will start at 11:30 to 13:00 CET, followed by a panel discussion on “climate change and expanding the resource base”. This discussion is part of the preparatory process towards the European Humanitarian Forum, collecting insights on some of the Forum’s key topics.
Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič, will contribute with the opening remarks.
Ms Paraskevi Michou, Director-General of ECHO, will chair the first segment of the Brussels’ launch.
