Janez Lenarčič, Commissioner for Crisis Management, is in Bucharest today to participate in a dialogue on risk communication as part of the European Forum for Disaster Risk Reduction Roadmap 2021-2030, organised by the UN’s Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) and the government of Romania.

At the event, he will outline the Union’s strategy in preparing for and responding to crises and strengthening resilience. He will call upon governments and other institutions to implement jointly the European Disaster Resilience Goals, adopted earlier this month by the Commission.

During his visit to Romania, he will also meet President Klaus Werner Iohannis and Prime Minister Nicolae-Ionel Ciucă.

Romania is a key player in the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. In the aftermath of the earthquake, the country immediately sent rescue teams to Türkiye and in-kind assistance to Syria.

Through its hub in Suceava, Romania is also providing essential logistical support to the EU solidarity operations in Ukraine.
