Tomorrow, Janez Lenarčič, Commissioner for Crisis Management, will open the 7th edition of the European Civil Protection Forum. The Forum, organised by the European Commission on 28 and 29 June 2022, will bring together over 700 international representatives from the civil protection and disaster management communities such as civil protection authorities, EU institutions, the scientific community, and the private sector.

Participants will discuss the current and future role of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism under the overarching theme “Towards faster, greener & smarter emergency management”. The Forum provides an opportunity for exchanging views on the civil protection aspects related to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, ways of strengthening climate resilience, improving regional and international cooperation, and sharing knowledge for a stronger and more innovative European Civil Protection.

Following his participation at the high-level plenary session, Commissioner Lenarčič will also open the event exhibition on 28 June, which showcases innovative solutions and best practices. On 29 June, Commissioner Lenarčič will also award the first ever EU Civil Protection Mechanism Medals for long-standing commitment and extraordinary contributions to the EU Civil Protection Mechanism.
