Commissioner for Crisis Management Janez Lenarčič will participate on 20 September 2023 in the High-level Ministerial event on Sudan.

Convened by the EU, the United Nations and the African Union, as well as Egypt, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, the event will take place in the margins of the UN General Assembly (UNGA).

The High-level Ministerial event will focus on supporting the humanitarian response to Sudan and the region following the conflict that broke out in the country in April 2023.

With the humanitarian situation in the country and the region deteriorating rapidly, Commissioner Lenarčič will call for unhindered access for humanitarian workers, so the support provided by the EU and the international community can reach those in need.

In 2023, the EU has mobilised over €126 million for the humanitarian response in Sudan, in addition to supporting the countries of the region address the repercussions of the Sudan conflict.
