Sudan: further EU Humanitarian Air Bridge flights

The EU continues to support the delivery of humanitarian supplies to Sudan, through Humanitarian Air Bridge flights.

A new flight this week has delivered 30.3 tonnes of essential supplies, including medical supplies and shelter equipment, which were transported from United Nations warehouses in Dubai to humanitarian partners in Port Sudan.

This follows a previous Air Bridge flight to Sudan earlier this month on 9 May. The Air Bridge flights were organised with the support of the WFP-managed United Nations Humanitarian Response Depot.

In addition to the Humanitarian Air Bridge flights, the EU has allocated a total of €800,000 for the immediate relief and first aid assistance to populations in Sudan itself, and refugees and returnees in neighbouring countries.

This funding includes €200,000 for the Sudan Red Crescent Society, and €200,000 each for the Egyptian, Ethiopian and South Sudan Red Cross/Red Crescent Societies. It comes on top of the €73 million already allocated to Sudan in 2023 in humanitarian assistance.

The European Commission is in contact with its humanitarian partners to ensure planned and existing programmes will be adapted where needed to the new situation and priorities.

EU humanitarian aid experts were rapidly deployed along the border regions in countries bordering Sudan (Ethiopia, South Sudan, Chad, Egypt, and the Central African Republic), to rapidly assess the emerging humanitarian needs on the ground.
