The essential medicines and medical supplies will be used to scale up the humanitarian response in the country, where stocks of life saving items are rapidly depleting and access is severely limited.

President Ursula von der Leyen spoke to the Secretary General of the UN António Guterres on 14 October, in the context of her on-going contacts with regional leaders.

Following the horrific terrorist attack by Hamas terrorists against Israel and the aftermath, which has led to a disastrous humanitarian situation for the people of Gaza, the EU continues to step up its emergency assistance to the Palestinian people.

Following the deadly earthquake that hit western Afghanistan this weekend, the EU will provide emergency humanitarian aid for an amount of €3.5 million, in order to address the most urgent needs of the affected population.

In line with the scope of the meeting to further consolidate the strategic partnership between the two sides, the gathering also provided a unique platform to showcase the evolution of the efforts on global emergency response, as well as the opportunity to share key achievements and lessons learnt.

The visit comes as a plane carrying EU emergency supplies is due to arrive in Yerevan. The aid flight is part of the European Humanitarian Response Capacity which has been activated to provide support to humanitarian organisations on the ground.

Underlining the EU’s solidarity with the most vulnerable, the EU Commissioner for Crisis Management Janez Lenarčič is travelling to Ljubljana today to participate at the 1st Slovenian Humanitarian Forum.

Today, the EU and Moldova sign the Agreement for Moldova to become a participating state in the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. This is a major step of Moldova joining the foundation of the EU’s disaster risk management system.

The EU is hosting a Humanitarian Senior Officials Meeting in Oslo, Norway. The meeting will focus on how to improve the effectiveness of humanitarian aid for the most vulnerable affected by the war.
