The Commission has coordinated a new medical evacuation from Gaza via the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, transferring 8 patients in need of urgent care and 25 accompanying family members to hospitals in Belgium, Romania and Spain.

This is the 5th operation under the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, following the activation of the Mechanism by the World Health Organization (WHO) to medically evacuate Palestinian patients from Gaza to Europe.

The funds will contribute to Gavi's goal for 2030 to help protect 500 million children around the world, strengthen immunisation systems, and boost global health security by increasing readiness to respond to disease outbreaks.

On 24 July, the first EU-coordinated medical evacuation operation of 16 Palestinian children and their family members took place from Egypt to Spain.

The European Union is deeply concerned about the Israeli army orders to evacuate civilians from the area of Khan Younis. Some 250,000 people are impacted by the evacuation orders.

The European Commission and Belgium are organising a new aid shipment from Brussels to Gaza via Jordan, in coordination with the City of Brussels and the Belgian Ministry of Defence.

The crisis in Gaza has reached another breaking point. The delivery of any meaningful humanitarian assistance inside Gaza has become almost impossible and the very fabric of civil society is unravelling.

This event brings together key actors involved in the response to the crisis in Gaza, including representatives and leaders from the region, the United Nations and other humanitarian agencies, to discuss pressing issues regarding the rapid deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza.

Despite all the efforts of humanitarian actors over the past eight months, often at great risk to themselves, the amount of aid allowed into Gaza has fallen to unacceptably low levels.
