The Commission has allocated today €76 million in EU humanitarian to address the needs of people affected by the main crises in South and Southeast Asia.

The Director-General, Maciej Popowski, has concluded a strategic weeklong trip to 4 Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, reinforcing the European Union’s commitment to humanitarian cooperation and disaster management in the region.

Commissioner Hadja Lahbib, alongside 4 Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), hosted a commemorative event at the European Parliament on 18 February to reflect on the lessons learnt from the 2004 Asian tsunami and to discuss improvements in disaster preparedness and EU-ASEAN cooperation.

As part of a broader mission to the Gulf aimed at deepening humanitarian cooperation with key donors in the Gulf region, Maciej Popowski, Director-General of European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations, visited the ReliefEU stockpile in Dubai.

This emergency funding will support our humanitarian partners in replenishing emergency stocks, case management and coordination.

Following the latest developments in the East of the country, the European Union stands ready to boost emergency assistance, particularly for the newly displaced populations in and around Goma.

The EU has immediately mobilised 13 power generators from the Commission's own strategic reserve, rescEU, hosted in Poland. 4 power generators offered by Denmark via the Mechanism will also soon reach Ireland and help provide electricity on the ground.

In her meeting with Minister Musumeci, she will hand over a wildfire peer review report. The report, amongst others, identifies strengths of the national system and puts forward recommendations for the improvement of the Italian wildfire disaster risk management system.

Following the collapse of the former government in Damascus, the EU is working at all levels to boost humanitarian aid delivery, including through launching Humanitarian Air Bridge flights.
