EU aid will address food insecurity through cash assistance, healthcare and nutrition services, water and sanitation, shelter support, protection and education. This funding will also help sustain essential services, support livelihoods, and strengthen resilience.
The emergency funding will support food assistance, water and sanitation, access to healthcare, and help the most vulnerable communities meet their basic needs.

The European Commission has allocated emergency humanitarian funding of €1 million to South Sudan, to support the country in its efforts to address the ongoing cholera epidemic.

The EU has released an additional €122 million for humanitarian assistance in the Greater Horn of Africa, as the region continues to face the impact of conflicts and climate-related disasters such as drought and floods.

People in the Horn of Africa are facing mounting humanitarian needs as the region is plagued by multiple conflicts, climate extremes and economic shocks. Around 65 million are estimated to be in immediate need of assistance.

In response to the possible spill-over of Sudan’s cholera epidemic, the EU announced today new funding of €600,000 to South Sudan, to contribute to the preparedness and to the response of a possible cholera outbreak in South Sudan.

The Horn of Africa and the Great Lakes regions continue to face multiple and overlapping humanitarian crises, aggravated by conflict and climate-related disasters. To help mitigate the consequences, the Commission has allocated additional humanitarian funding of €26.7 million.

The Greater Horn of Africa region is facing multiple and overlapping humanitarian crises with more than 50 million people in urgent need of food assistance.

Ahead of the G20 Summit in Bali, the Commission is stepping up support to help those most affected by the devastating effects of rising food insecurity globally.
