On World Refugee Day, we will recognise the strength and resilience of the more than 117 million people displaced globally. Forced from their homes by conflict, persecution, violence and human rights violations.

EU aid will address food insecurity through cash assistance, healthcare and nutrition services, water and sanitation, shelter support, protection and education. This funding will also help sustain essential services, support livelihoods, and strengthen resilience.

This funding will contribute to provide logistics support to humanitarian partners delivering urgent relief to the most vulnerable, due to the current energy crisis and related difficulties on the distribution of food and drinking water.

This announcement comes as drought related food insecurity and malnutrition rates are surging nationwide in Somalia, with 6.5 million people (i.e. around 1 in 3 Somalis) facing hunger and an estimated 1.85 million children under the age of 5 at risk of acute malnutrition.

With this new humanitarian funding, the EU will provide life-saving services to the most vulnerable in the eastern DRC, but also to Congolese refugees forced to flee the country.

The support will be delivered as cash assistance, so vulnerable household can meet immediate needs and start rebuilding their lives.

The new humanitarian funding will prioritise the provision of water, hygiene and sanitation services, but also emergency shelter to the people fleeing El Fasher.

This includes essentials such as tents and other shelter items, clothes, medical supplies and material to purify water. The supplies will be delivered via 2 EU-funded humanitarian flights that are scheduled to arrive to Kabul later this week.

On World Refugee Day, we commemorate the strength and resilience of refugees, who have left their homes not by choice, but due to conflict, violence, persecution or human rights violations.

Following the collapse of the former government in Damascus, the EU is working at all levels to boost humanitarian aid delivery, including through launching Humanitarian Air Bridge flights.

This brings total EU humanitarian assistance to Gaza to over €450 million since 2023 and comes in addition to the EU Air Bridge Flights which have delivered over 3,800 tonnes of aid.

A significant share of the allocation for the Caribbean will support humanitarian partners in Cuba, as they are responding to the impact of both the hurricanes and earthquakes that have struck in the past month.

This funding will help our humanitarian partners on the ground to provide immediate aid and respond to the most urgent needs concerning food, shelter, access to clean water and sanitation and other essential services in the hardest-hit areas.

This funding will help address the most pressing needs, such as food, water and sanitation, and healthcare.

This funding complements the ongoing distribution of hygiene and sanitary items, shelter tools, and kitchen sets from EU-funded emergency stockpiles.

The funding of €200,000 will help disease surveillance and case detection, activities in the field of water and sanitation, as well as health and hygiene promotion at community level.

The EU has released an additional €122 million for humanitarian assistance in the Greater Horn of Africa, as the region continues to face the impact of conflicts and climate-related disasters such as drought and floods.

In response to the heavy rains and landslides that struck Ethiopia in July 2024, the European Union has provided €150,000 to support the country’s response in providing life-saving interventions in the affected areas.

This funding will help provide cash assistance, food, access to clean water and sanitation, and other essential services in the hardest-hit areas.
