Ethiopia: helping people in a dire humanitarian situation

Since November 2020, the conflict in northern Ethiopia has caused massive displacement not only in Tigray, but also in the neighbouring regions of Afar and Amhara.

Famine, lack of basic services, insecurity, loss of life and livelihood have affected millions of people, with the situation becoming increasingly dire.

With EU humanitarian support, UNICEF provides basic emergency services to women and children, including nutritional support for malnourished children.

In 2022, the EU allocated €48 million to humanitarian projects in Ethiopia.

Overall, since November 2020, the EU has channeled around €70 million to humanitarian agencies helping the people affected by the conflict in northern Ethiopia.
