Preventing dengue in the Americas with EU support

In 2024, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) recorded the worst ever outbreak of dengue fever in the Americas. There were over 13 million cases, with more than 8,000 deaths.

To support PAHO’s response in the most affected countries, the European Union released €1.5 million in humanitarian aid. This funding helped:

  • reinforce the surveillance and early detection of cases
  • other prevention activities to avoid the spread of the disease
