Vanuatu: local leadership to recover from cyclone Harold

In early 2020, a category 5 cyclone, Harold, caused widespread damage on the Pacific archipelago nation of Vanuatu.

Packing sustained winds of more than 200 kilometres per hour, the storm devastated countless homes and left many displaced. The southern part of Pentecost Island was amongst the hardest hit.

In response, the EU channelled humanitarian funding to support CARE International in providing crucial assistance to those most in need.

The goal was simple: help them recover and rebuild homes that could better withstand future hazards.
