As the escalation of conflict in Myanmar continues to increase humanitarian needs, the EU has released an additional €15 million to help people affected in the country, as well as refugees who have fled to neighbouring states. This includes Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh.

This is the first use of the mechanism during this wildfire season this year. In total, as part of preparedness measures for the wildfire season, the EU has established a fleet of 32 aerial firefighting assets and 556 firefighters, pre-positioned across Europe.

In view of the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Afghanistan, the EU has activated its emergency aid reserve to avoid a risk of famine in the country. This will bring the total EU response to nearly €150 million in humanitarian aid for this crisis in 2024.
