Following a request of assistance from Bolivia, the EU has mobilised firefighters’ teams from France through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. Around 40 firefighters have been deployed to assist the Bolivian authorities in their efforts to extinguish the wildfires currently active in the country.

The new EU humanitarian package announced today consists of €11.5 million for Syria and €3.5 million for Lebanon. It will provide life-saving humanitarian aid including food assistance and water, sanitation and hygiene support for those who need it the most.

The funding will provide assistance to the most vulnerable, including shelter, water, sanitation and hygiene, as well as support for livelihoods and other basic needs.

A latest EU Humanitarian Air Bridge (HAB) flight transporting supplies for humanitarian partners UNICEF, Emergency and Relief International, has delivered aid in Sudan this weekend.

Commissioner for Crisis Management Janez Lenarčič is participating today in the pledging conference organised in Geneva by the humanitarian organisation Geneva Call, of which the EU is its largest donor.

Due to the deteriorating humanitarian situation, the EU has released €10.5 million in humanitarian aid to address the needs of people in Myanmar and of Rohingya refugees and their host communities living in Bangladesh.

Following the earthquake that struck Nepal earlier this month, the EU has approved a €2 million aid package to bring relief to the most affected people. It will help provide shelter, access to clean water and sanitation, and health care, among other services.

A further 6 EU humanitarian air bridge flights are now scheduled for the coming days. Of these, 2 flights from Brindisi, Italy, are scheduled to depart today and tomorrow carrying 55 tonnes of items donated from the EU to the World Food Programme (WFP).
