In the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), conflict and violence has driven millions from their homes. There are currently over 7 million internally displaced people (IDPs) within the DRC – the highest number in Africa, after Sudan.
With EU support, our humanitarian partners, UNICEF and the national Red Cross society, are providing health and nutrition supplies and non-food items to newly-arrived IDPs at the Baraka site, North Kivu province. Apart from distributing essential household items, the project also helps victims of gender-based violence.
Our colleague Norik Soubrier visited the site recently, during the distribution of essential supplies to 7,900 IDP families.
