EU solidarity in action: 5 years of European civil protection and humanitarian aid

We are pleased to present the new document "EU solidarity in action: Five years of European civil protection and humanitarian aid (2019-2024)" which reflects the European Union's comprehensive efforts in addressing multiple global crises.

Over the past 5 years, the EU responded to a surge in humanitarian and civil protection challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, natural hazards, and the war in Ukraine. The EU Civil Protection Mechanism was significantly strengthened, with a 550% increase in activations within Europe and the expansion of the rescEU reserve to tackle – apart from wildfires -- emergencies such as health crises.

The EU also remained a leading humanitarian aid donor, mobilising support across 140 countries. Readers are invited to explore this document, which highlights the EU's commitment to global solidarity, disaster preparedness and prevention, and humanitarian support in times of unprecedented need.
