Following a request for assistance from Italy, high-capacity pumping teams from Slovakia and Slovenia have been mobilised to the Emilia Romagna region via the EU Civil Protection Mechanism to help the Italian authorities deal with heavy floods.

The visit coincides with the midterm review of the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 in New York, an opportunity to further strengthen international cooperation on disaster risk reduction.

The EU continues to support the delivery of humanitarian supplies to Sudan, through Humanitarian Air Bridge flights. A new flight this week has delivered 30.3 tonnes of essential supplies, including medical supplies and shelter equipment.

Today, the Commission has announced the release of €8 million in humanitarian assistance and disasters preparedness funding for the Philippines, Nepal and other South-East Asian countries to support people affected by recurrent natural hazards and conflict, among other causes of vulnerability.

The 30 tonnes of essential items, including water, sanitation and hygiene as well as shelter equipment were transported from the warehouses of the United Nations in Dubai to Port Sudan. Upon arrival, they were handed over to UNICEF and the World Food Programme.
