France and Spain Civil Protection Preparedness in West Pyrenees (Safer Pyrenees)

The goal of the project is to improve the preparedness for emergencies in the cross border area of the Pyrenees. This is to be achieved by improving knowledge of risks, resources and infrastructures, response effectiveness, operational coordination between the two countries, and population awareness.
The expected outcomes of this 2-year project include:

  • Risk assessment and mapping
  • GIS interface to share existing resource and territorial layers
  • Protocols to improve response based on risk scenarios
  • Developing a cross-border mobile radio network covering the area to improve emergency communications
  • Planning and execution of a simulation exercise
  • Training cross-border civil protection organisations in response protocols and developing public awareness
