Underlining the EU’s solidarity with the most vulnerable, the EU Commissioner for Crisis Management Janez Lenarčič is travelling to Ljubljana today to participate at the 1st Slovenian Humanitarian Forum.

Today, the EU and Moldova sign the Agreement for Moldova to become a participating state in the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. This is a major step of Moldova joining the foundation of the EU’s disaster risk management system.

The EU is boosting its humanitarian funding with €5 million in response to the increasing needs resulting from the Nagorno Karabakh crisis.

The EU is hosting a Humanitarian Senior Officials Meeting in Oslo, Norway. The meeting will focus on how to improve the effectiveness of humanitarian aid for the most vulnerable affected by the war.

The EU has released an additional €1 million in humanitarian aid to respond to the floods that have affected Pakistan in the past weeks, which have directly or indirectly affected some 900,000 people.

Today, Commissioner Lenarčič attended the event “Closing the gap: accelerating climate action in fragile and vulnerable contexts” in the margins of the 78th UN General Assembly.

On Thursday, Commissioner Lenarčič will co-chair the side event entitled on Bridging the Humanitarian Funding Gap: An Urgent Call to Action. The main goal of this event is to mobilise more donors to bridge the humanitarian funding gap via innovative approaches and strategies.

The European Commission is mobilising €500,000 in humanitarian aid to support the populations affected by the escalation of hostilities in Nagorno Karabakh.

Convened by the EU, the United Nations and the African Union, as well as Egypt, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, the event will take place in the margins of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) will focus on supporting the humanitarian response to Sudan and the region.
