Spotlight on humanitarian aid to Pakistan
Preparing for disasters and supporting displaced populations
We are organising a media trip for journalists to Pakistan, which will take place from 21 to 25 October 2024.
Pakistan is one of the world’s most disaster-prone countries, experiencing recurrent droughts and floods. In 2022, it suffered devastating floods that affected 1/3 of the country and worsened the already pressing humanitarian needs. The ongoing monsoon season has already caused flash floods and other severe weather events in some areas of the country.
During the media trip, you will visit EU-funded projects that are supporting communities to be better prepared for floods in the Sindh Province.
Furthermore, Pakistan is home to over 3 million Afghans with various statuses. It has been hosting displaced Afghan populations for the past 4 decades, making it 1 of the largest recipients of refugees in the world.
You will also visit projects assisting displaced Afghan populations and the Pakistani communities that host them with access to essential services, for example healthcare, nutrition, education in emergencies, water and sanitation, and protection.
You will be able to cover the following activities:
- visit disaster preparedness activities, such as early warning systems,
- visit Afghan refugee settlements and learn about the legal assistance and other services provided to them,
- interview people benefiting from these projects and humanitarian partners.
