European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations
Europe
Humanitarian needs in the EU’s immediate neighbourhood have rapidly increased due to a fully-fledged war, refugee crisis, and natural hazards. The EU continues its humanitarian and civil protection operations to help the most vulnerable.
In 2023, the escalation and subsequent ceasefire has led to mass exodus of people from Nagorno-Karabakh. Thousands of vulnerable people require humanitarian aid in the Nagorno-Karabakh region and Armenia. In response, the EU provided €5 million in humanitarian aid to support the most vulnerable.
Since the beginning of 2018, more than 110,000 refugees and migrants arrived in Bosnia and Herzegovina via the Western Balkans route, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM). Most of whom have left the country already.
