Commissioner for Crisis Management Janez Lenarčič is participating today in the pledging conference organised in Geneva by the humanitarian organisation Geneva Call, of which the EU is its largest donor.

In Geneva, Commissioner Lenarčič will hold bilateral meetings with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk, the IFRC Secretary General Jagan Chapagain, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi, and the Geneva Call Director General Alain Délétroz on pressing global humanitarian issues, including EU support for aid efforts in Gaza.

Given armed conflicts remain the key driver of humanitarian needs which only continue to rise globally, Commissioner Lenarčič will highlight the increasing complexity of efforts to alleviate human suffering in conflict settings.

Primarily this is due to the increasing non-compliance with International Humanitarian Law by both state and non-state actors, while recalling that respect of rules of war is central to effective and efficient humanitarian assistance.
