Following the devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake on 28 March 2025, the European Commission is allocating an additional €10 million in humanitarian aid. This funding will provide emergency shelter, medical care, clean water, and sanitation to affected communities, as well as family tracing and reunification amongst others.

This brings the EU's total earthquake response for Myanmar to €13 million, part of a broader €46 million humanitarian package for 2025.

Commissioner for Preparedness, Crisis Management, and Equality, Hadja Lahbib, said: "The European Union continues to show its solidarity with the people of Myanmar in the aftermath of this tragic earthquake. Our priority remains ensuring that humanitarian aid reaches those in need as quickly as possible. We call once again on all parties to grant unimpeded access to humanitarian organisations, so they can operate safely and effectively to deliver life-saving assistance."

A team of 12 European experts and two EU Liaison Officers are present in the field to enhance coordination with humanitarian partners on the ground. The EU also organised a first Humanitarian Air Bridge flight from Copenhagen to Yangon, carrying 80 tonnes of essential EU-owned supplies, which are now being distributed on the ground by UNICEF. In addition, the EU Emergency Response Coordination Centre is supporting remote damage assessment with analytical and scientific capacities and Copernicus Emergency Management Service.

Ensuring safe and unrestricted access for humanitarian organisations remains a top priority. The EU calls for full respect of international humanitarian law and for all necessary measures to be taken to protect civilians and aid workers.
