Due to the drastic deterioration of the humanitarian situation in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the EU has set up a Humanitarian Air Bridge with life-saving supplies, including medicines, nutritional materials, and equipment to Goma.
The 4th EU Humanitarian Air Bridge flight left Europe today, with 36 tonnes of cargo to be delivered to our humanitarian partners on the ground, including UNICEF and Save the Children.
This flight marks the end of the first phase of the humanitarian air bridge to Goma, organised with the support of France.
The four flights since early March have transported a total of 140 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Goma, which will be distributed by our humanitarian partners to those most in need. Further flights are expected to take place in the coming weeks.
Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič, said: “The EU Humanitarian Air Bridge to the DRC, set up with the support of France, has reaffirmed our support to the most vulnerable in the country in these difficult times. We remain ready to mobilise all means at our disposal to support our humanitarian partners on the ground, providing vital assistance to those most in need.”
