After heavy rainfall the regions of Lower Saxony and Thuringia in Germany and Nord-Pas-de-Calais in France are facing floods and river overflows. In the past days, both countries have requested assistance via the EU Civil Protection Mechanism that has quickly mobilised emergency support.

For Germany, 39 responders from France with flood containment barriers and 16 vehicles have started response activities.

For France, 3 High capacity modules with 4 pumps from the Netherlands, 2 pumps from Czechia and 2 pumps from Slovakia are expected to depart to France today.

Austria, Hungary, Sweden, Slovenia and Slovakia have also swiftly offered their assistance in case of further needs.

"As the new year starts, EU solidarity does not waver. Once again, the EU Civil Protection Mechanism's swift and decisive assistance to the flood-stricken regions of Germany and France stands as a testament to the strength of unity. I thank Austria, Czechia, France, Hungary, the Netherlands, Slovenia, Slovakia and Sweden for quickly showing their support.” said Commissioner for Crises Management Janez Lenarcic.
