In response to urgent requests for assistance in their fight against severe wildfires received from North Macedonia and Bulgaria, the EU Civil Protection Mechanism has been activated.

On this second annual EU Day for the Victims of the Global Climate Crisis, we honour those lost to and affected by the climate crisis. This day also serves as a call to action to minimise the impact of climate change wherever we can and build resilience to protect lives and livelihoods.

The response includes providing emergency shelter and cash assistance for people that have lost their homes or livelihoods, as well as healthcare and water and sanitation services, among other actions.

Following a request for assistance from Albania through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, Greece has sent 4 planes to help fight wildfires in the Dropull municipality.

Türkiye is an active participant in the EU Civil Protection Mechanism and has been a member since 2016. Today's updated agreement further strengthens the role of Türkiye in the mechanism.

The European Union is deeply concerned about the Israeli army orders to evacuate civilians from the area of Khan Younis. Some 250,000 people are impacted by the evacuation orders.

The funding will serve to provide assistance to the most vulnerable people affected by the hurricane, including cash assistance, water, sanitation and hygiene, food items and other basic needs, among other aspects.

The European Commission and Belgium are organising a new aid shipment from Brussels to Gaza via Jordan, in coordination with the City of Brussels and the Belgian Ministry of Defence.

Children are disproportionately affected by armed conflict. They face violence, injury and death, recruitment or use by armed forces and armed groups, displacement and uprooting, interrupted education, lack of health care, long-lasting physical and mental trauma and much more.
